Mature wheat will bow its body

There is a therapist who is very professional. After he retired, he still wants to help his patients, so he opens a small private clinic. A lot of young doctors who want to get his guidance come to visit him and want to be the assistant of him. He chooses one of them who looks smartest and works together with him. He is the teacher and the young doctor is his assistant and helps him. Because of their good cooperation, more and more patients come to visit his clinic. They do not want the patients to wait long, so they decide to work separately.

They decide that the patient who gets simple disease, for example catches a cold or cough will be for the young assistant to help, while special cases go to the therapist himself. The patients can, depending on their illness, choose the doctor when they register.

After a period of time, more and more patients only want the young assistant to check them. At the beginning, the old therapist is very happy and proud of his assistant. He thinks that because the assistant cures all the simple disease, there will be less serious ones.

Till one day, by chance, the old therapist finds that some patients, who look quite bad, but insist on choosing the young assistant. He is very surprised and does not understand what happened with these patients and why they did not choose him? “I’m the specialist, I have more experiences, why they don’t choose me?” The doctor murmurs himself. “I just got the medical academy honorary award, all the newspapers wrote about it, they also showed my picture, a big one.” He talks to himself incoherently.

At last the old therapist hires a detective to check what’s the problem in his clinic. So the detective pretends to have a cold and comes to visit the clinic.

First he finds the woman at the register. She is politely and does not hint the patients on which doctor they should choose. Then he also finds that the patients who come for the first time, will -depending on his illness- choose the related doctor. The problem is, when they come the second time. Some of the patients who belong to the old therapist will change to the young assistant to check them.

Soon the detective knows the reason why they change the doctor.

The young assistant knows he has not enough work experiences, so he will ask the patient about his illness very carefully, talks with them friendly and also encourage them: ”Don’t worry, everything will be ok!” or “ You need to drink more water, get more sleep and then you will be better.” This kind of encouraging words will make the patients’ heart very warm. They have much more effects for the illness than any medicines.

The old therapist on the other hand is experienced and confident about his knowledge, so he checks the patient quickly. When the patient just tells him a little his symptom, he already knows which kind of disease the patient has. He always looks cool, but seldom talks with his patients. So it looks like he does not care about what illness the patient has, since he has no sympathy.

Actually all what the old doctor is very professional, but the patients will misunderstand it easily. They would think: He doesn’t care about me, so he will not check me good.

When the detective tells the therapist his findings, the old doctor is shocked and says:” Yes! My god, why I didn't see this myself?”

This is the philosophy of ”Ripping wheat”. This problem easily happens, even on the most knowledgeable specialist or scholar. They don’t want to be arrogant or overbearing intentionally but they are situated in a high position and therefore have a sense of distance to the layman.

So don’t forget! The wheat, which is more mature, will bow its body more. Or we can also say: "The person who knows, but stays modest will be more successful".
